Young UK entrepreneurs get global perspective

Promising new British entrepreneurs will have a chance to hone their business skills through a new volunteer program that links them with startups and companies in developing markets like Bangladesh, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The ICS Entrepreneur program expects to see 400 young people participate over the next 18 months. In addition to gaining real-world experience, participants will also qualify for academic credits through Open University.

“For anyone determined to be the next James Dyson or Hilary Devey this is an amazing opportunity to kick-start a career in business and entrepreneurship,” said International Development Secretary Justine Greening. “It’s a win-win for the host countries where the volunteers will work and great for British employers who are crying out for workers with the right skills and a global perspective.”

“As world economies evolve, an international perspective has never been more important,” added Liz Cameron, chief executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
