What's your carbon footprint? IBM can tell you
IBM is offering customers a new service that can assess their organisations’ energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions at any level, enabling them to better identify areas for improvement.
The Strategic Carbon Management programme could help companies cut their overall carbon emissions by as much as 50 percent, according to IBM.
The service will let customers find out the eco-impact of any aspect of their organisation — from business travel and retail space to offices and data centres.
“Companies are being driven to reduce their environmental impact and improve their energy efficiency — their customers and partners demand it, their financial performance depends on it, and governments increasingly require it,” said Eric Riddleberger, IBM’s business strategy consulting global leader. “Piecemeal approaches yield piecemeal results, but setting a comprehensive strategy for emissions and energy management can provide real improvements and business value.”
The UK construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall has already begun using the IBM offering to address rising energy costs, new carbon reduction legislation and the growing green expectations of clients and other stakeholders. The firm expects the information it garners will help it improve its overall sustainability and ensure consistent standards throughout the organisation.
