Wales plans 'Zero Carbon Building' forum
Wales’ Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) plans to host a debate next week on the issue of “Perspectives on Zero Carbon Building” (PDF). The event comes in advance of the Welsh government’s goal of making all buildings in the country zero-carbon starting in 2011.
The debate is scheduled for Monday, 23 Feb., at the Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff.
“We believe that we can help the Welsh Assembly Government to achieve its ambition on zero carbon — if everyone pulls together,” said TCPA Wales representative Kay Powell. “Our event on 23 February aims to show what can be done already, to challenge myths, and to change perceptions.”
LaThe TCPA is one of a number of organisations — the ‘coalition of the willing’ — to recently sign a joint declaration aiming for a “built environment that contributes low or zero net carbon emissions as quickly as practically possible.” Launched by Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing, the coalition also includes the Sustainable Development Commission, the Design Commission for Wales, the National House Building Council, Federation of Master Builders, the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment and CBI Wales.
