Vivint teams with Tendril to help customers hit energy-control goals

Home automation company Vivint is partnering with Tendril, which provides a cloud-based platform for smart grid, to provide consumers with “an active learning experience that provides insight into their energy usage and how to control consumption based on their specific goals.”

Under the partnership, Vivint will connect its Go!Control smart home devices with Tendril’s Connect cloud platform for use in the energy industry as well as with Tendril Energize, which is a suite of applications that includes a home energy management web portal.

For Vivint customers who already have a Go!Control in-home display, the Tendril Energize web portal will be available later this year. Beginning in early 2012, Tendril Connect will be integrated into the next-generation Go!Control panel, which is manufactured by 2GIG Technologies.

Go!Control creates a network that connects all of a home’s smart systems: security; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); lighting; small appliances; video and more.

According to a study by Electric Power Research Institute, consumers who can monitor their energy use in real time are able to reduce their electricity consumption by as much as 20 percent.
