US government seeks savings through demand response

Viridity has entered into a master agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency Energy (DLA Energy) to pursue load curtailment at federal and military facilities across the United States. By selling planned electric load reductions at a premium into the energy markets, Viridity Energy aims to help defense bases and federal facilities generate savings through new energy conservation strategies.

The federal government is the largest consumer of electricity in the United States.

DLA Energy’s mission is to provide the Department of Defense and other government agencies with comprehensive energy solutions in the most effective and efficient manner possible. DLA Energy’s demand response (DR) program works to assist customers in understanding demand response, providing them an easier means to enter into DR programs. There are currently over 50 DLA Energy-sponsored installations as part of the existing demand response program across the United States. The projects provide a combined capacity of 160 megawatts (MW), representing $2.4 million in credits that have been generated through load curtailment.
