UK wind farms plan tours, more for Wind Week 2009

wind-turbine-from-belowThe British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) will observe Wind Week 2009 with a variety of exhibits, tours and other events at more than 20 wind farms across the country.

Events are scheduled to run from 13 through 21 June.

Wind Week 2009 follows on last year’s BWEA Wind Weekend. The week-long calendar of activities is aimed at promoting the benefits and opportunities offered by wind energy in terms of sustainability, economic prosperity and energy security.

Wind energy has especially high potential in the UK, which is the windiest country in Europe. Projections indicate that, by 2020, wind, wave and tidal power together could provide more than 30 per cent of the UK’s electricity needs.
