Linford Christie is fronting this campaign for green couriers.

The company, POD’s operate with a fleet of environmentally friendly vans (the company claims). Their vans run on either electricity, LPG or a mix of low-sulphur diesel and Biodiesel.

Here’s the release:

PODs is the UK’s first ‘green’ courier company

Olympic 100 metre gold medalist Linford Christie helps promote PODs’ promise to deliver ‘the perfect package’ without harming the planet

PODs, a leading international freight and courier company based at Heathrow airport, has today staked its claim as the UK’s first and only ‘green’ courier. As part of the launch, Olympic gold medalist Linford Christie has signed on as ‘the face’ of the Company, highlighting PODs’ promise to deliver ‘the perfect package’ with limited environmental impact.

Following a £2 million investment in alternative energy, PODs is the first UK courier to use a fleet of delivery vans running on either electricity, LPG or a mix of low-sulphur Biodiesel. As part of its commitment to the environment, the Company has even installed its own Biodiesel tank and pump at its corporate headquarters.

“Although many companies are happy to publicise their corporate environmental strategies, many of these same businesses don’t think about the pollution that they’re causing by sending packages from one place to another,” says PODs’ managing director Ian West. “We understand that people have businesses to run, and customers to supply, but we are here to say that we can offer a ‘green’ alternative to traditional courier services, without the need to compromise on service, quality or results.”

PODs’ has placed an order for a number of electric-powered Modec delivery vans which will be delivered in May and have a range of 100 miles on a single charge, zero emissions, and a capacity of two tonnes. Quiet and pollution-free, the Modec range is also a sound business choice in other ways, as it incurs zero congestion charges, zero road tax and zero operator license requirements. PODs is believed to be the UK’s first courier to invest in electric vans.

As part of this launch, PODs is planning to target professional Personal Assistants (PAs) and Facilities Managers with details of its environmental credentials, since these employees are often responsible for organising courier services. As such, PODs is hoping that professional PAs will help to multiply the global benefits of its environmentally-friendly service, since a PA will often organise hundreds of deliveries during an average month. “
