Take off for Europe's largest wind farm

Europe’s largest onshore wind farm, with 120 wind turbines, has been completed and switched on in Portugal.

France’s EDF Energies Nouvelles said the final tranche of the Ventominho wind farm, with 240MW of total capacity and a single point of connection to the grid, is now fully operational.

The wind farm is a set of five interconnected sub-farms across 30km near the Spanish border in north-western Portugal.

EDF EN Portugal, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Endesa subsidiary Eolverde jointly own 85 per cent of the project.

An obviously chuffed David Corchia, CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles, said:

“We are delighted to count Europe’s largest wind farm among our achievements and it is emblematic of our expertise. It also reflects our commitment and our early moves to establish positions in the Portuguese market, thanks to our high-quality local team.”
