Sun Microsystems CIO: data centres redundant by 2015

bobThe CIO of Sun Microsystems, a firm famous for making big servers, reckons corporate data centres won’t be necessary by 2015–they’ll be replaced instead by a ‘big black box’ of service providers. “That’s my father’s legacy,” admits Bob Worrall, in an interview with Earth2Tech.

In the meantime, he reckons CIOs can make utility savings of up to 80% by switching to an efficient data centre (presumably in advance of said black box). But interesting stuff.

Q: You talk a lot about budget challenges and cost savings. How much can people save by transferring to an efficient data center?
