Stop your car, Google Transit just launched

gtGoogle, seeking new ways to help you find things, has launched a tool to help people plan their public transport journeys. But only in the US and Japan, so far. It’s called Google Transit.

Integrated into Google Maps, it makes it easy to figure out your journey from A to B, while abandoning your car at home. Given the widespread European belief that each American owns at least 16 computers, 4 cars and 2 homes, this is clearly cool news. But we’re still hoping it launches here and gives London’s Journey Planner some user-friendly competition…

To be fair, looking at some of the routes available so far, it’s clear that public transport isn’t always wildly convenient in the US. Las Vegas, for example, sports only a single monorail for its public transport options. Airport, anyone?
