Simple eco-steps could save UK retailers millions

Struggling UK retailers could save millions each year by reducing the amount of waste they generate and taking other environmental actions, according to sustainable business advisor Envirowise.

“For a business to be truly competitive, it needs to improve its performance across all areas,” said Envirowise’s Elaine Sharp. “As environmental regulations are more rigidly enforced and competitive pressures increase, failure to maximise the use of resources and to minimise waste could prove an expensive mistake for many companies.”

Business waste alone provides an enormous opportunity for savings. According to Envirowise, the UK retail sector annually generates some 12 million tonnes of waste … with a cost of over £360 million.
