Siemens opens wind-power training centre
Siemens has opened a new wind-power training centre in Bremen, Germany, that will offer broad-based programmes for both customer personnel and service technicians from around the globe.
“We see service as much more than a regular look into the nacelle,” said said René Umlauft, CEO of the Renewable Energy Division of Siemens Energy. “And precisely because we attach such importance to service, we have decided to set up a training centre for our service team here in Bremen. Here we also want to give our customers the opportunity to have their personnel trained in line with the latest developments.”
The central feature of the new training centre is the original nacelle — the housing for the gearbox and other generating components — of a Siemens 2.3-megawatt wind turbine. A simulator, ladder structures, electrical and hydraulic modules, and a maintenance crane make training possible under virtually realistic conditions.
Wind turbines and the associated services are important features of the Siemens environmental portfolio. In 2008, revenue from the products and solutions of Siemens environmental portfolio was nearly €19 billion and accounted for about a quarter of Siemens total revenue.
