Power Efficiency earns innovation award

Power Efficiency, a Nevada-based cleantech firm, has earned an Innovation of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan for its constant-speed electric motor technology.

Power Efficiency’s motor efficiency controllers (MECs) provide energy savings of up to 35 percent, according to the company. The efficiency improvement comes from a technology that functions similarly to a car’s cruise control, keeping motor speeds steady while adjusting the amount of energy used according to load.

“Our extensive global research indicates energy efficiency has become one of the top concerns for purchasers of electric motors and motor controls,” said Chandrakumar B.J., a research analyst at Frost & Sullivan. Power Efficiency’s MECs, he said, “provide a technologically innovative yet economical means for many types of motor-driven equipment to use energy much more efficiently.”

Power Efficiency’s technology is being used in a wide range of applications, including escalators, elevators and stamping presses.
