Peru enlists IBM for cloud-based govt services

The Peruvian government has called on IBM to help it develop and manage a private cloud-computing technology infrastructure that will centralise IT operations for 10 government-owned companies providing critical services to citizens.

The civil services companies that will participate in the project include Electroperu, Hidrandina, Electrocentro, Electronorte, Electro Noroeste, Corpac, Serpost, Enapu, Fondo Mivivienda and Fonafe. These organisations provide such services as power utility, postal, port shipping, transportation and housing.

As part of the five-year project, IBM will consolidate 10 data centres, virtualise more than 130 servers and centralise database administration for some 40 applications.
