Part-limo, part-Batmobile Superbus makes Masdar debut
Masdar City, designed to be one of the world’s most sustainable developments, has welcomed the Superbus, a groundbreaking innovation in public transport.
The six-wheel, 12-door futuristic Superbus measures 15 metres in length and has a 23-seat capacity. Fully powered by electricity and constructed with light carbon fibre materials to make it more energy efficient, the Superbus integrates the speed and service of a fast train with the flexibility, affordability and comfort of a road vehicle.
Developed by TU Delft of the Netherlands, Superbus is a new concept for sustainable mobility: new vehicle, new type of dedicated infrastructure and new logistics. The project places all of the intelligence and innovation into the vehicle, which can travel at up to 250 kilometres per hour, while the infrastructure can consist of relatively inexpensive concrete roads.
The vehicle is designed to operate without a fixed schedule, with a flexible logistical system and optimised routing that can allow for high-volume transport on demand.
