Oxford University challenges British Government's pollution figures
Oxford University has got the right hump with the British Government over its pollution figures. The university says Britian is emitting 19% more greenhouse gasses than in 1990, as opposed to the government’s calculation of emissions being down by 15%, The Times reports:
The report, Too Good To Be True? The UK’s Climate Change Record, by a team of economists led by Dieter Helm at Oxford University, says that official figures fail to capture the true picture because they don’t take into account pollution from aviation, shipping, overseas trade and tourism or the carbon footprint of Britons abroad.
It will embarrass British negotiators at an international gathering in Bali who are trying to persuade countries including the US and China to agree a new treaty to limit the effects of global warming.
