npower programme provides heat, insulation improvements
Some 4,459 people in England and Wales were this past winter referred to npower’s Health Through Warmth scheme, which provides heating and insulation improvements.
The Health Through Warmth programme operates in 14 areas of England and Wales. Training sessions are offered to key community workers who can then identify the links between housing and health and refer people at risk. Health Through Warmth assesses each case on an individual basis and seeks funding according to need.
The scheme was set up in 2000 in partnership with the NHS and NEA. To date, over 40,000 referrals have been received and Health Through Warmth has accessed measures with a value of over £37 million and has contributed over £3.8 million from npower’s Health Through Warmth Crisis Fund for people in need but not eligible for assistance from statutory sources.
