Nordic leaders aim for energy sustainability
The Nordic Council of Ministers has launched a new Website — Nordic Energy Solutions — designed to showcase its progress toward developing a sustainable energy future.
The project stems from a 2007 agreement in which the ministers agreed to work together on sustainable energy development. Countries included in the pact include Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
“The Nordic countries generate 63 percent of their electricity from renewable sources,” the new portal’s description states. “No other region in the world can match this. We do have a lot of rain, mountains, forests and wind to work with, but crucially we have the technology to exploit these resources and a political framework that encourages innovation and the use of clean energy sources.”
The Nordic Energy Solutions site highlights a variety of technologies — including wind, solar, bioenergy, hydropower, geothermal and special applications for isolated areas — as well as policy issues, research projects and development news.
