'No Parking': More than a sign, now a species

no-parkingThis is North Devon reports that scientists have identified a tree in Watersmeet as an entirely new species: “Sorbus No Parking.”

Why the odd name? The tree has long been called the “No Parking Tree” by locals because such a sign was once nailed to it. (The sign’s since been moved to a proper signpost, but the name has stuck.)

Even the new species’ Latin name reflects the tree’s unique past, the paper reports. The moniker? “Admonitor,” for “admonish” or “tell off.”

That’s telling ’em, tree!
