- Norway’s greenhouse gas emissions fell by 2.2 per cent in 2008, led by a decline in the manufacturing industry, but were still far above goals under the UN’s Kyoto Protocol, Statistics Norway said today;
- The financial crisis has made it harder for the EU to agree on an internal target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions as part of a global climate change deal, Reuters reports;
- America’s energy posture constitutes a serious and urgent threat to national security — militarily, diplomatically and economically, according to a blue-ribbon panel of top-ranking retired admirals and generals;
- Agence France-Presse reports that wind farms in Spain are increasingly being disconnected due to a fall in power demand caused by the economic slowdown;
- StatoilHydro ASA won’t abandon its Canadian oil sands project after some shareholders called for the Norwegian company to do so, Finansavisen reported;
- The Obama administration today plans to propose tough standards for tailpipe emissions from new automobiles, establishing the first nationwide regulation for greenhouse gases, The Washington Post reports;
- APC by Schneider Electric was recently named a winner in the Energy Efficient Products category of the 2009 Green Enterprise IT Awards, presented by the Uptime Institute and co-sponsored by the US Department of Energy;
- Hadco Lighting recently engaged Future Lighting Solutions engineers to retrofit its North American outdoor lamps with light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
