- Veranda Solar has developed a new photovoltaic system designed for easy installation by apartment and condomium dwellers;
- The California city of Santa Barbara has activated its first large-scale solar-energy system, a 384-kilowatt facility developed with help from Suntech Power Holdings;

- The British government has awarded Jaguar Land Rover a £27 million grant to help it develop a fuel-efficient turbodiesel hybrid vehicle;
