New Fiat engine cuts fuel consumption
A new engine system unveiled today by Fiat could cut auto fuel consumption by up to 25 percent as well as reduce carbon emissions, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.
To be highlighted at the Geneva Auto Show this week, the Multiair system provides variable valve timing through a combination of hydraulics and electronic controls, the automaker says. Fiat originally developed the technology for its Formula 1 Ferrari.
The first car to feature the Multiair system, the Alfa Romeo MiTo, is expected to be available by the end of this year.
