New council to draft UK green economy roadmap
The UK’s new Green Economy Council, which met for the first time this week, will focus on finding ways for government and industry to work together to support the transition to a green, low-carbon economy and minimise the costs for business while maximising the opportunities.
The council will bring together inisters from three key departments – the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. All three departments are working on developing the Green Economy Roadmap, which is set to be published this spring.
Business members on the council include Gearoid Lane, managing director of new markets for Centrica; Joe Greenwell, chairman of Ford UK; Stephen Leonard, CEO of IBM UK & Ireland; Henry Winand, CEO of Intelligent Energy; and Andreas Goss, chief executive for Siemens UK and Cluster North West Europe.
