Meter rollout uses OPOWER for customer engagement

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) has selected energy management software company OPOWER to help with its coming smart meter rollout.

BGE will deploy OPOWER’s Advanced Customer Engagement (ACE) platform with the goal of eventually reaching 1.2 million residential and small-business customers through an array of communication channels. The rollout is scheduled to begin shortly after BGE begins installing smart meters.

OPOWER’s ACE platform takes individual and neighborhood energy-usage data and transforms that information into personalised reports to help customers better understand their energy consumption. The reports also offer advice on ways to reduce energy use and lower their gas and electricity bills. At the center of the customer engagement approach will be a new, state-of-the-art online tool that allows customers to sign up to receive alerts on bill-related issues.
