Leading UK meter firms to integrate Sensus communications

Several major meter manufacturers have agreed to integrate into their portfolio Sensus’ FlexNet long-range radio communications solution for smart metering and the smart grid.

The meter companies include EDMI, EM-Lite, Itron, OnStream and Secure Meters. Together, these manufacturers supply the majority of meters to the British energy market.

The UK plans to deploy smart meters to all domestic and non-domestic customers by 2019.

Sensus provides its communications solution in partnership with communications and media services company Arqiva.

The metering companies’ integration of Sensus’ offering “demonstrates growing support for the principles of a dedicated, utility communications network capable of delivering universal connectivity,” said Adrian Flewitt, technical director of Sensus UK. “This ensures energy suppliers have a choice of network solutions as they undertake trials and deployments.”
