GreenPocket helps you say 'Like' to smart metering
Germany-based GreenPocket has developed what it says is the first social metering app connecting smart energy meters with Facebook.
The company plans to present the app during the Metering Billing/CRM Europe conference, set to be held Oct. 4 – 6 in Amsterdam.
The inspiration for the app is the finding that, while consumers are generally keen to take charge of their energy consumption data during the first few weeks of having a smart meter installed, they tend to pay less attention to the technology’s insights over the long run.
The GreenPocket social metering app is aimed at helping consumers share their carbon footprint information in a competitive and entertaining way on Facebook. Even if people don’t use the site regularly, the app sends out push notifications to let them know how well they are doing compared to their friends — in, form example, weekly energy efficiency contests.
“This combination initiates an innovative dialogue between the utility and the customer and opens up an entirely new channel for utility marketing campaigns,” said Thomas Goette, CEO of GreenPocket.
Founded in 2009, GreenPocket provides smart metering and consumer-focused smart-energy software to utility companies that include Vattenfall, Stadtwerke München and Mainova.
