Grant aimed at opening China to US smart-grid tech
The US Trade and Development Agency is granting $660,000 to the China State Grid Electric Power Research Institute for a feasibility study and pilot project on the implementation of a smart-grid demand response management system.
The grant is part of the agency’s ongoing work to open China’s market for US clean-energy technologies through the US-China Energy Cooperation Program.
The development of a smart-grid demand response system would increase energy efficiency and effective resource management, providing economic and environmental benefits to communities and households throughout China. The project will further generate opportunities for US manufacturers to gain a foothold in the China smart-grid market, estimated to be worth $10 billion annually.
The project will entail installation of Honeywell International and AECOM demand response management technologies in selected commercial and industrial pilot sites to demonstrate the feasibility of adopting US smart-grid solutions to China’s grid infrastructure.
