GE releases new platform of distribution automation controllers

GE Energy has released a new platform of distribution automation (DA) controllers for the smart grid.

The Multilin Voltage Regulator Controller, Capacitor Bank Controller and Field RTU represent key building blocks in GE;s advanced distribution automation offerings, according to the company.

“We understand the challenges utilities face trying to address growing demand for power and an aging distribution infrastructure,” said Juan Macias, general manager of GE’s smart substation business. Coupled with GE’s recent acquisition of FMC-Tech Inc., Macias said, the new platform of DA controllers provides distribution utilities with a way to effectively manage critical distribution assets for grid efficiency and reliability.

When deployed as part of a voltage and VAR control solution that includes voltage regulators and capacitor banks, DA controllers can help utilities optimize grid efficiency through peak load shaving and reduced power losses. They also provide asset visualization through advanced power quality measurements.
