GE, Gehrlicher team up for global solar projects
GE and Germany’s Gehrlicher Solar plan to build a series of solar power plants around the world.
The two companies have already begun construction on one of their first joint projects, a 1-megawatt (MW) solar park in Aschheim, German. Being planned and built by Gehrlicher Solar, the plant will feature GE’s thin-film solar panels.
When it’s completed in August 2011, the new plant is expected to provide enough energy for nearly 300 homes.
GE has already installed more than 25 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy around the world. Gehrlicher Solar, which is one of the 10 largest independent developers of photovoltaic projects, has built and operated solar power systems of all sizes around the world.
Earlier this year, GE announced it had achieved several major milestones in the solar industry, including a record in solar panel efficiency and the intention to build a 400-MW manufacturing facility for this technology.
