Elster’s AS220 electronic smart meter allows for remote service connections and disconnections, and also supports wireless communications for home-area networking (HAN) applications. Designed to meet the latest energy requirements by the European Commission, the Elster meter can accommodate up to four different energy and demand tariffs, and can even provide data readouts when the main power source is not operating. The AS220 is the latest meter to enter Elster’s arsenal; other meters include the REX and Alpha. The city of Dayton, Tennessee, recently decided to begin rolling out Elster smart meters. Other utilities using Elster meters include Baltimore Gas & Electric, the city of Naperville in Illinois and Cleveland Utilities.
