Curitiba, Brazil, the granddaddy of bus rapid transit, implemented its first BRT system in the 1970s. It began using high-capacity, bi-articulated buses from Volvo in 1992. Volvo says it’s supplied the fleets for more of the world’s BRT systems than any other company. In addition to Curitiba, Volvo buses can be found in BRT fleets in Bogotá, Colombia; Mexico City; Göteborg, Sweden; and York in the UK.
