Fujitsu Siemens Computers makes green pledges

Strong comments from European IT leader at IT forum in Germany

Fujitsu Siemens Computers CEO Bernd Bischoff today pledged that his company will be the first IT vendor to completely move to energy efficient products and that it will offer them without additional expense to the customer.

In an on-stage discussion with CTO Joseph Reger, Bischoff warned that the predicted 50 per cent of all IT organisations that will have a catalogue of environmental measures by 2010 is still not good enough.

Fujitsu Siemens also unveiled a new monitor with a zero watt sleep mode.

In a separate presentation, Reger predicted the death of hard disk drives in the data centre, as businesses exploit the lower cost and better energy efficiency of flash memory. According to Reger this could happen as early as 2010.
