Fuel cell power in a pinch

Here’s a sweet little discovery I made this week: Medis Technologies’ Fuel Cell Power Emergency Kit.

The New York-based company describes the kit as “the world’s first eco-friendly, personal fuel cell power system that delivers emergency lighting and mobile phone power when a user needs it most.”

Fueled with liquid borohydride, the system’s power pack has a long shelf life and is activated by squeezing, according to Medis. Once it’s ready to go, it provides 20 watt-hours of energy … enough to recharge your average mobile phone a half-dozen times. The kit also comes with an LED flashlight and standard charger cable, along with tips that can plug into miniUSB and microUSB devices.

As DVICE writes in its review of the kit, “This way you can call for help before you become horror movie fodder when your car breaks down.”

Seems well worth the $49 (in a cardboard box) or $59 (in a plastic case) investment to avoid a potential zombie attack.
