Forum to examine Government sustainability
Westminster eForum plans to host a forum on “Government Sustainability: Greener Buildings, Goods and Services” on 9 June at Sixty One Whitehall, London.
The keynote speaker for the event will be William Jordan, chief sustainability and operating officer for the Office of Government Commerce.
Supported by Accenture, the seminar will focus on the steps Government needs to take to reduce its carbon footprint, areas where the private sector can contribute to its efforts and ideas for how different departments can encourage behavioural and cultural change amongst a diverse and disparate workforce.
Such issues are high on the political agenda, say the forum’s organisers. Just this week, The UK Parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee launched an inquiry into the Government’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and its progress in meeting its own sustainability targets. The Government put forward ambitious plans to make itself carbon neutral by 2012, and the Sustainable Development Commission commended the Government for its progress so far, but with a sprawling estate, thousands of employees and the economy in recession, the question today is whether it be able to honour its commitment.

The Westminster eForum was established to provide an environment for policy-makers in Parliament, Whitehall and Government agencies to engage with key stakeholders.
