E.ON eyes up 500 new wind turbines
Energy company E.ON has signed a deal with Siemens Energy for 500 new wind turbines with a capacity of 1,150MW for new projects in the US and Europe.
The wind turbines are due to be delivered and installed in 2010 and 2011 and it is the largest single wind power deal Siemens has ever signed.
A no doubt very happy René Umlauft, CEO of Siemens’ Renewable Energy Division, said:
“The new partnership between E.ON and Siemens is not only to the great benefit of the two companies. The cooperation also marks an important step in the remarkable evolution of wind power as a mainstream energy source.”
Each wind turbine will have a capacity of 2.3MW and they will feature various combinations of tower heights and rotor diameters.
Out of the total 1,150MW wind power capacity around 600MW is earmarked for US projects and the remainder for wind farms across Europe.
