Energy group nixes further UK nuke bids
The consortium made up of energy firms GDF SUEZ, Iberdrola and Scottish and Southern Energy SE have committed to a programme to develop a fleet of new nuclear power stations in the UK. However, the group this week decided not to make any further bids in the auction by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and EDF of three potential nuclear new build sites in Britain (PDF).
The consortium plans to focus on the sites nominated as part of the UK Government’s Strategic Siting Assessment, which was published for public consultation last week. Some of these sites have to be sold by their current owners in the near future as a result of undertakings given to the UK Government.
