Eaton to help GSA make buildings more efficient

The US General Services Administration (GSA) has chosen diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation to design and furnish new systems to replace power distribution, power control and electrical metering equipment.

The work is part of the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building Modernisation Project in Portland, Oregon. The initial contract of $600,000 stems from a $133 million federal stimulus grant for the GSA to improve energy efficiency and comfort in the 17-floor, 517,000 square-foot structure.

The project falls under the GSA’s Smart Buildings Initiative, and will help provide a template for more than 20 federal office buildings with similar needs. To be completed in 2013, the project will enable the Edith Green building to meet LEED Platinum standards by integrating innovative, sustainable technologies. It is the largest American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project in GSA Region 10, which covers Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Washington.
