Councils get van-tastic carbon cut funding
From the sexy world of motorsport – pit bunnies and champagne – to the slightly less hot under the collar world of council vans.
The government has announced a £20 million plan to get less carbon-spewing council vans on the UK’s road. If all goes well, there’s an additional £30 million of public money ready and waiting to go into the procurement pot.
The first of the leaner, greener council vans should be on our roads from next year, according to the Department for Transport.
Says Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick:
-
“By using the public sector’s considerable purchasing power, we aim to give investors and manufacturers confidence in the existence of a market for lower carbon vans, to encourage them to bring them to market more quickly than they would do otherwise.”
