- Estimates of how much crude oil we have extracted from the planet vary wildly. Now, UK researchers have published a new estimate in the International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology that suggests we may have used more than we think;
- The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), in coordination with the Biosciences Federation, is today (7 May) launching a UK-wide consultation to identify niche areas of expertise that are in danger of being lost from the bioscience research community;
- Renewable energy companies could still provide substantial returns for private equity investors this year as those with real growth potential are surviving the economic slowdown, Reuters’ Planet Ark reports;
- Coronis has been awarded the Frost & Sullivan “2008 European Wireless Sensors Competitive Strategy Leadership Award” for its focused strategy of serving the growing wireless utility metering market;
- The Office of Fair Trading has today launched a short market study into the sale of second-hand cars;
- A delegation of senior executives from Hitachi Europe and Hitachi Europe Rail Group visited Newcastle this week to view a site in the local area that has been shortlisted as a possible location for a UK manufacturing plant.
