- German energy demand fell in the first three months, as coal-based power production plunged, Point Carbon reports;
- Vela Solaris AG, a privately-held Swiss corporation providing software for the renewable energy sector, today announced the launch of its Polysun family of products in the United States;
- Environment Secretary Hilary Benn today joined the celebration of the successful Every Action Counts programme, which has run over the last three years. He also highlighted the new Greener Living Fund, which has just completed its second round of applications and for which grants will be announced in the summer;
- Although Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, and Cambridge are always near the top of most biotechnology cluster lists, other areas around the world are starting to pop up on the life science radar screen, reports Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News (GEN). These newly emerging clusters are trying to emulate their more established regional brethren whose success was based on the ability to tap into a sound venture capital base, battle-tested management, and a culture that values entrepreneurialism, according to the May 1 issue of GEN;
- Thousands of small electric scooters, bicycles and wheelchairs throughout Europe and Asia are powered by LifePO4 –- a material used in advanced lithium-ion batteries developed by Université de Montréal researchers.
