- John Balbus, the Environmental Defense Fund’s chief health scientist, is testifying in Washington today about the need for cleaner cars to protect human health and address climate change;
- Lexus and Scholastic today named the 16 US middle schools and high schools chosen as Challenge #3 winners in the Lexus Eco Challenge;
- Expect retail company spending on IT software and services to drop by 5.9 percent to £2.77 billion, according to research highlighted on silicon.com;
- Rather than receiving a bailout from the Swedish government, ailing car company Saab has been told it would be better off moving into the wind energy industry;
- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued a statement regarding the US Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to reconsider its denial of the state’s request to set its own greenhouse gas emissions regulations, saying “Today marks renewed hope that California and a growing number of states will finally get to move forward with a commonsense policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from passenger vehicles. California’s standard is the equivalent of taking 6.5 million cars off the road and will make our air cleaner, save drivers money at the pump and reduce our nation’s dependence on imported oil.”;
- Major organisations need to work more with their suppliers to manage greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain, according to a new survey by the Carbon Disclosure Project;
- JC Penney this week became the first US retailer to earn an Energy Star Award for Sustained Excellence in Energy Management;
- Hitachi is today hosting a forum on climate change — “Meeting Energy Needs, Reducing Environmental Impact” — with US Senator John Kerry as the keynote speaker;
- Florida-based VeriChip Corporation has established a new subsidiary to focus on and invest in the clean and alternative energy sector;
- Siemens this week signed an agreement with Rosatom, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, to pursue a joint venture for developing pressurised water reactor technology.
