- Poorly crafted global warming legislation could lead to an enormous and poorly regulated derivatives market. according to a report released today by Friends of the Earth US;
- UK scientists say climate change is leading to dramatic reductions in daddy long legs populations, which is damaging to birds that rely upon them for food;
- UK Energy and Climate Change Minister Mike O’Brien today told the Renewable Energy Association in London, “(W)e are fully aware of the investment challenges facing some parts of the industry. As part of the work we are doing across government on the low carbon industrial strategy, we are looking at the impact of the downturn and what we can do to alleviate it.”;
- National Grid says it will base executives’ salaries and bonuses on how well their departments manage their carbon budgets;
- Climate change is causing Japan’s famed cherry blossom season to arrive earlier in the spring, reports AFP;
- A recent report from the National Academy of Sciences warns that large bursts of charged particles from the sun could shut down electrical grids across vast regions, with devastating consequences;

- Siemens Energy has announced it will acquire a 28-percent stake in the Italian solar company Archimede Solar Energy S.p.A.;
- The National Academies Press has published a new book titled “Restructuring Federal Climate Research to Meet the Challenges of Climate Change”;
- Gro Harlem Brundtland, Special Envoy on Climate Change to the United Nations Secretary General and former Norwegian Prime Minister, has accepted an invitation to serve as a commissioner on the Aspen Institute’s Dialogue and Commission on Arctic Climate Change;
- Raser Technologies and Copper King Mining Corporation have entered into a geothermal lease agreement covering up to 75,000 acres of land southwestern Utah;

- Science Foundation Ireland has launched its strategy for 2009-2013, titled ‘Powering the Smart Economy’;
