  • London Mayor Boris Johnson today addressed mayors from around the world at the C40 Climate Change Summit in Seoul, detailing London’s delivery plans to become a world leader in electric vehicle usage;
  • The executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change says “the world is not standing still on climate change” (PDF) as the organisation’s central negotiating text Is published ahead of next month’s meeting in Bonn;
  • The World Business Summit on Climate Change being held 24 – 26 May in Copenhagen, will bring together global representatives in business, government, science and civil society, to provide political decision-makers with clear recommendations on what is needed in a new international climate framework;
  • President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister of Finland Matti Vanhanen and Chairman of the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG) Ilkka Herlin opened today the Baltic Sea Action Summit (BSAS) joint venture. They invite the heads of state and governments around the Baltic Sea as well as public and private sectors to participate with commitments for concrete actions to save the Baltic Sea;
  • Gateshead Council is expanding its green fleet with the introduction of ECO-start technology in two of its minibuses;
  • Based on their own practical experience, a taskforce of eight leading companies have worked with the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership and Business in the Community to produce a “Guide to Carbon Management” that sets out practical tools and strategic advice which suppliers require in order to compete, regardless of size;
  • The Energy Technologies Institute has developed UK energy system blueprints for 2050. The energy systems model will help identify those technologies capable of having the greatest impact for 2050.
