- The US Environmental Protection Agency has announced new Energy Star requirements that will make qualifying computer monitors, digital picture frames and other displays 20 percent more energy efficient than conventional options;
- The World Business Council for Sustainable Development has scheduled a side event during the Bonn Climate Change talks on the “Business Contribution to the Climate Change Debate” and the challenges to reducing emissions in the building sector;
- Transport for London and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames have joined forces to launch Smarter Travel Richmond, a three-year, £4.2million initiative to promote sustainable travel options like walking, cycling and public transport;
- The European Union carbon emissions trading programme short last year, as analysts reported that companies emitted 40 million to 100 million tonnes more carbon than their permits allocated;
- Invenergy and GE Energy are teaming up to develop one of the first wind energy projects expected to benefit from the US economic stimulus plan: expansion of the Grand Ridge Energy Center wind installation;
- Point Carbon reports that Finland is considering a windfall profit tax on “unearned income” stemming from carbon trading;
- North Carolina-based Cree has earned ENERGY STAR qualifications for its LED downlights.
