- Ontario officials have teamed up with Thales Rails Signalling Solutions to help the city upgrade and modernise its passenger trains for improved efficiency and lower energy consumption;
- A new firm, Pike Research, has started up to provide cleantech industry analysis;
- New regulations adopted by the European Commission aim to phase out incandescent light bulbs by 2012;
- Australian officials have announced $83 million in funding to help clean-energy and other technology companies weather the current global economic crisis;
- Climate change will have serious consequences for human health, but the US government isn’t funding enough research to prepare for those consequences, according to a new study published by the US National Institute of Environmental Health Services;
- A Pacific Institute report warns that a sea level rise of 1.4 metres would threaten 480,000 California residents as well as almost $100 billion worth of property along the coastline;
- Recurrent Energy announced today that it’s acquired a solar project pipeline of up to 350 megawatts from UPC Solar;
- Ascent Solar will open its new world headquarters in Thornton, Colorado, next week;
- The designers of the “Web of Light,” commissioned for last year’s Liverpool Biennial, were presented with a special award at the national Lighting Design Awards 2009 at a ceremony in London yesterday.
