Chinese firms face compulsory green audits

CHINA WATCH Chinese companies may be forced to regularly reveal their environmental information – this is an attempt carried out by the national environment watchdog SEPA (The State Environmental Protection Administration), according to Chinadaily.

This regulation will be applied to listed companies and those waiting to be. They have to provide detailed information about environmental disclosures in annual reports if the regulation comes into effect, since Chinese companies have been criticized for a lack of environmental responsibility.

At a recent forum on environmental protection and financial service in Beijing, Ge criticized Chinese public companies for generally poor environmental disclosures containing only “qualitative descriptions” and “scant information”.
He also mentioned a study that found just half of 200 Chinese public companies included environmental details in their 2006 annual reports, with none specifying emissions data and pollution control investment.
