Centrica barges ahead with turbine laying boat

turbineCentrica has secured a long term contract with MV Resolution, the world’s largest offshore turbine installing barge. Greenbang must confess her ignorance and amdit here that she didn’t know there were that many offshore turbine installing barges. Oh, alright, she didn’t even know there was one, let alone a hierarchy of turbine installing barges who get together to measure who’s the biggest.

The MV Resolution, the behemoth in that little gathering, will be used by Centrica to finish up a massive project off the Lincolnshire coast, says The Independent, with the power company having secured a deal with massive barge until 2011, and with options to extend to 2016.

If you’re kicking yourself about not having got in there first, not to fear – the paper quotes Alan Thompson, head of renewables, as saying:

“While the vessel is important to us, we will not be looking to monopolise it and we’re open to other commercial opportunities that may arise during times when it may not be required for our own work.”

Phew.
