Business wants carbon reporting standards

A coalition of environmental agencies, firms and MPs have written an open letter to environment secretary Hilary Benn and business and environment secretary John Hutton. The letter makes the case for standardised carbon reporting, as the Guardian reports:

“Current reporting levels are still too low, and what is disclosed is not comparable because of the use of different calculation methods,” says the letter. “The lack of transparency … undermines the comparative advantage that should accrue to companies with good carbon reporting and control.”

Some 50 signatories to the letter include BT, The Co-operative Bank, United Utilities, Friends of the Earth, John Gummer MP and the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum.

Greenbang completely agrees. If all the big firms are able to report their income and expenses in a standard format, then why not report other things in a consistent fashion too.
