Aussies announce fuel-cell efficiency record
Australia’s Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFCL) Limited says it’s achieved a world’s-best efficiency level of 60 percent (PDF) from its natural-gas-powered fuel-cell home appliances.
The new efficiency level marks a 10 percent improvement over the company’s previous record, announced last December.
“We have now achieved 60-percent efficiency in a fully integrated fuel cell and heating system, while exporting 1.5 kilowatts of electricity to the grid,” said Brendan Dow, CFCL’s managing director. “This is not a laboratory test but a unit that has all the functions of a commercial unit for homes. Our company’s products will be located in the home, so 60-percent efficiency is at the power point, with no transmission or electricity distribution losses.”
