Alvarion brings 4G to Houston smart-city project

Alvarion Ltd. is deploying a 4G municipal network in Houston as part of the municipality’s Smart City project.

Alvarion’s 4G wireless broadband network will enable the local government to offer advanced municipal services, such as enhanced public safety and traffic optimisation solutions, and consistent access to information. The Smart City project is also aimed at providing more efficient and cost-effective management of the city’s day-to-day operations.

The key benefits of the new wireless broadband network are expected to include:

  • Improved traffic safety and congestion
  • Reduced commercial T1 costs by replacing such connections with WiMAX service
  • Excess bandwidth that will enable free internet service to more than 300,000 underserved residents
